logo for the Maine riparian swallow survey

Maine Riparian Swallow Survey Logo which is a circular logo with a large bank swallow in the front and showing a river and a sandy river bank with swallow burrows in the background

Maine's Bank Swallows have experienced significant population declines and they were recently listed as Threatened on the Maine Endangered and Threatened Species list. This project is a collaboration of the Maine Natural History Observatory and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and seeks to learn more about the species distribution, abundance and habitat use along Maine's waterways. The Project Director wanted to show not only a Bank Swallow in flight, but also have some of the habitat in the logo. These birds are colony nesters and make burrows in sandy river banks. They can sometimes be found in old gravel pits that have sandy embankments.
